One of the blogs that I read frequently is Michael Pietroforte has turned me on to some great free tools and NetSpeedMonitor is my new favorite. It sits in your taskbar and displays network speed.

To test it out, I initiated an OCS VoIP call and took a screenshot of the real-time network stats:


This is pretty accurate because OCS requires 50 kbit/s for the minimum bandwidth requirements and 80 kbit/s for high quality.

Note that the requirements are cumulative

Data + Voice + Video =

56 + 50 + 50 = 156kbps (Minimum Quality) or 56 + 80 + 250 = 386kbps (High Quality)
