I ran across one that I haven’t seen before when I was attempting to fix a system which was not reporting into OpsMgr correctly. The symptoms were an OpsMgr service which would not start, and the OpsMgr agent was installed (see the screenshot below – shown as “System Center Operations Manager 2007 Agent” with no publisher or installation date. The System Center Operations Manager 2007 Agent also would not uninstall. The graphic below shows the error which was displayed when I attempted to uninstall the agent:

Error on Agent Install_2

“An Operations Manager Agent and Operations Manager Server of different versions are being installed, this is not supported. Please make sure you install same version of these components.” If you disregard the grammar error here (I did not major in English but I would bet it should read “An Operations Manager Agent and Operations Manager Server of different versions are being installed, this is not supported. Please make sure you install the same version of these components.”) this is still kinda scary as the system having this error most certainly should not have had any Operations Manager server components installed on it. But since I’m not sure how we got here I went ahead and debugged it as if it was just a corrupt OpsMgr agent installation/manually re-installing the OpsMgr.

Resolution: Fixed the OpsMgr agent through manually installing the OpsMgr agent on the system. It now shows up properly in add/remove programs correctly, the service started without an issue and the system is now reporting into OpsMgr 2007.
