As part of the configuration for the SharePoint 2010 management pack, there is a SharePointMP.config file which needs to be edited to include the various SharePoint servers in the environment including the databases used by SharePoint. In an environment where there may be a significant number of these and you do not have an existing list the following were the steps that we took to identify these servers:
1) Use a Windows Service monitor to monitor the “SharePoint 2010 Timer” service. Export the list to Excel.
2) Open the SQL view and look for SPS or SharePoint databases. Export the list to Excel.
3) Group the results into farms based on feedback from the SharePoint team.
This may not result in a complete match to what SharePoint servers exist in the environment but it provides a solid start to work from!
