Using Visio integration, I can easily link OpsMgr health status to various items in Visio. The example below shows a standard linking with a healthy/green health indicator.
In a previous blog article I discussed other ways to display health status including changing the color of a link between two sites based upon the health state of the entity.
By highlighting the icon, right-clicking and choosing Edit Data Graphic I can change how the health state of the entity is displayed in Visio.
There are a series of different data items which are defined below:
By double-clicking on each of them, we can alter how icons are displayed based upon their health. If we start with the second item (={In Maintenance}) we see the following which lets us know that if the entity is in maintenance mode it will display with the icon shown in the Style section.
The fourth data set shows us the majority of the graphics which we see related to health state for this entity for healthy, uninitialized, warning and error as shown below.
If we choose to alter the style we get a list of options including those shown below.
So we can alter the style which is used to display different health indicators and different health states (the Warning and Uninitialized states text below had to be switched in this example).
Or as another example we could choose this:
Once we have made these changes, we apply them to only the selected shapes.
So we can reflect the same health condition using a variety of different icons by just altering how the Data Graphic is defined. Example as shown below:
Original:
First Updated Health Shape:
Second Updated Health Shape:
Summary: Visio integration provides some interesting capabilities to display health status for an entity including changing color based upon the entity health, or using different shapes depending upon the health status!
