The 2012 versions of the System Center family of products are due to be released by Microsoft Q4 of 2011. With these upcoming System Center releases many of us are focussing on Microsoft Private Cloud technologies. This post is part 1 of hopefully many posts this upcoming fall season 2012 where we will walk through installing System Center products and outline administration tasks.

The first step for me was to install a fresh copy of Windows Server 2008 R2 on my lab server hardware. I chose to configure this lab server physical hardware as a domain controller. I then added all of the necessary 2008 R2 server roles and features to install SQL 2008 R2 and SCVMM 2012.

This is a lab environment and as all of you know installing SQL and SCVMM on a domain controller is not a best practice. Microsoft does not support installing the SCVMM Self-Service Portal on a domain controller,( ). And of course, "The postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent my employer’s positions, strategies or opinions. This post is an AS IS offering and please test this solution to verify it works for you and your environment".
