A Texas state agency has engaged Catapult Systems to assist them in planning, designing, and implementing a Unified Communications (UC) solution based on Microsoft Lync. Already using Office Communications Server 2007 for IM and presence, the agency wishes to enhance their existing environment by upgrading to Lync Server 2010. Catapult has designed a Proof of Concept deployment to help with the transition from OCS to Lync, and to provide the foundation to replace the current Nortel PBX with Lync Enterprise Voice in the future.
Following migration of OCS to Lync, the Catapult team will implement Lync components to allow for voice connectivity with the current PBX system, enabling dial-in conferencing, integration with Exchange Unified Messaging for voicemail, and provisioning of Lync optimized devices. The project will conclude with the establishment of external connectivity so that the agency’s 300 employees can create and host online meetings with external participants.
When completed, this POC will pave the way for a full Enterprise Voice deployment in the future as a replacement for the agency’s current Nortel PBX, including E911 and advanced voice features.
