I was doing a fresh install of SQL Server 2012 (Standard) Reporting Services on a development SharePoint 2013 (Standard) environment just the other day. I grabbed my SQL Server .iso, mounted it on the single server SharePoint farm, and went through the install wizard. (Full Instructions here.)
When I got to the step to install and starting the Reporting Service in SharePoint, I received the following error:
“The term ‘Install-SPRSService’ is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if the path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.”
My first inclination was that maybe I did not have appropriate rights. But I double checked and I was a part of the Farm Administrators group. After a few research attempts on Bing, I discovered that I had used the SQL Server 2012 Standard media, but had not applied SQL 2012 SP1 (which is required for SharePoint 2013). Once I installed SP1, all was well again and I was able to complete the install and configuration.
