With this week’s release of Windows Server 8 Beta, it seemed like a good idea to see how the server beta would run in my SCVMM 2012 RC environment. I configured this server as a Windows Server 2008 R2 X64 system, and assigned it 512 mb of memory to install. Here’s the step-by-step installation of the Windows Server 8 Beta screenshots below:
Here’s what memory looked like after I logged in with 512 mb of memory.
Ok, so how do I shut it down to add memory? Control-Alt-Delete and the power button on the bottom right was the first way I found to do this.
After converting the server to dynamic memory and setting it to start with 512 and max at 1024, this is what it looked like.
Summary: Windows Server 8 Beta installed like a champ in SCVMM 2012 RC, and even features like Dynamic Memory worked as expected. Very cool!
