Eliminating Data Islands for Semiconductor Company
This leading semiconductor design company experienced a sustained period of aggressive growth. Its business depends on the accurate and timely handling of design and supporting quality documents, and the organization relies on internally designed applications to access, route and notify users of documentation processes.
The company determined that an intranet update was required, and that it wanted to transition the company’s current model from a group of manually maintained data islands to a company-wide portal where users have access to timely, focused information about the company and each individual’s role in its success.
This update would affect every department in the company, from the Line Test Technicians that manage quality control to the Marketing Communications group that files SEC statements. All company documents, internal notifications and announcements needed ti be migrated from their respective locations to the new intranet, providing a one-stop information area for all company employees.
Catapult evaluated several document management products and found that SharePoint Portal Server (SPS) was the best match for price, features and performance for the client’s needs. Catapult worked closely with client personnel to identify document structures, profiles, categories, keyword needs and interface design.
The SPS solution provides a customized dashboard of information relevant to each department, at the same time providing a common look and feel for the entire company.
The SPS document library allows users to access documents in a controlled environment where each document is versioned, secured and tracked with all the appropriate information. While users continue to leverage their existing document creation tools and processes, they now have a variety of new ways to track, search and be notified about their document control.
Faster Implementation. SharePoint Portal Server allowed the client to implement their new portal in record time.
Powerful Ease-of-use. The features are simple and powerful enough that each department head was able to manage their respective areas shortly after implementation and training.
Centralized System Management. The portal storage space and backups are centrally managed, assuring that there are no isolated islands that may be at risk of data loss.
